Course description
MTH471 is a graduate-level introduction to measure theory and integration. It is a core course for the Ph.D. program and foundational for more advanced courses in analysis, partial differential equations and probabil- ity. Topics covered will include: Lebesgue measure and integration on the real line; convergence theorems; function spaces; general measure spaces; Radon- Nikodym theorem; Fubini’s theorem. Class attendance is essential.

9:40am - 10.55am Tuesdays and Thursdays in Morey 205.
Textbook
I will use two textbooks, and will pick and choose topics from each.
- Royden and Fitzpatrick, 4th edition (the edition really doesn’t matter too much).
- Axler’s Measure, Integration and Real Analysis open access pdf
Prerequisites
MTH 265, 265H or equivalent.
Grading and Exams
Grading will be based on Homework, a Midterm and a Final.

Homework.
- There will be weekly homework, it will be assigned on Tuesday, and it will be due the following Tuesday in class.
- The first homework will be assigned on Aug 27, and you can find it on this webpage.
- Honesty policy: you may not look up solutions to homework problems on the internet and present them as your own. You may freely discuss homework with each other. But your work must be your own, and you may not copy someone else’s answers.
