Exams & Grading

NO MAKEUP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY REASON. If you miss a midterm exam for any reason, then Part A of the final exam will count as your makeup. Final Part A can only replace one midterm score, however.

Midterm I covers Chapters 13, 14, 15, 18 (HW 1-5) and Solutions

Midterm II covers Chapters 13-15, 18-20 (HW 1-9), but focuses on Chapters 19-20 (HW 6-9). Here are Solutions

Final exam covers Chapters 13-24 (HW 1-13). Final Part A focuses on Chapters 1-20 (HW 1-9) and Final Part B focuses on Chapters 13-24.

Because there is sometimes confusion about this point, your final (part A and B together) is worth 1/3 of your grade and you have 3 hours to complete the whole thing. If it improves your grade, final part A can replace a midterm (i.e., we will take the maximum over 3 possibilities: no replacement, replace midterm 1, replace midterm 2). Our advice is to learn the material from the semester as well as you can, and do the best you can on the whole exam for the 3 hours, rather than strategizing about how to study or spend your time during the exam.
